This senior management position serves in an executive capacity and reports to the Broward College District Board of Trustees. The General Counsel is responsible for overseeing and managing the College’s legal affairs.

 

Broward College serves 50,000 students across three main campuses, encompassing 368 acres and 2.46 million square feet of facilities, supported by 4,000 employees and an annual operating budget of approximately $200 million.

 

The general counsel leads the legal and risk management teams that currently include an Associate General Counsel, two paralegals, a risk director, one senior risk coordinator, and an executive assistant.

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Law degree from an accredited law school.
  • Member in good standing with the Florida Bar.
  • 10 or more years of legal experience.

 

Essential Functions:

Provide legal counsel to staff and the District Board of Trustees on contracts, legislative matters, policies, and procedures while engaging outside counsel in specialized areas as needed.

  • Effective interpersonal skills to work within an academic community.
  • Experience in managing teams and departmental operations.
