Job Description

Highly responsible legal work providing legal advice and counsel to the City Commission, the Community Redevelopment Agency (“CRA”), City Manager, City staff and City advisory boards.  The work is characterized by a variety of professional level duties and responsibilities involving the delivery of legal services of a relatively complex nature. General direction is received from the City Attorney, however, significant latitude is provided requiring the use of initiative and independent judgment. This position requires a high level of critical thinking and ingenuity in bringing successful resolution to some unusually complex and strategic situations and issues.

Applicants must be members in good standing with the Florida Bar to be considered for employment as an Assistant City Attorney with the City of Dania Beach. Juris Doctor degree from an accredited school of law, supplemented by a minimum of five (5) years’ experience practicing in the area of Florida municipal law and related fields; however, ten (10) years of such experience is highly preferred. “Related fields” include: land use/zoning, code compliance, real estate, procurement, contract drafting and administration, public records, Sunshine Law, construction law and other local government related experiences. Experience in working with Florida Community Redevelopment Agencies (“CRA’s”) and applicable laws is preferred but not required. Board certification in City, County, and Local Government law is helpful, but not required. Experience in municipal land use and zoning matters, as well as experience with Florida Code Compliance (“Code Enforcement”) matters and procedures is preferred and highly desirable.


Must be an attorney at law in good standing with the Florida Bar and possess a Florida Bar “Certificate of Good Standing” and a license to practice law in the state of Florida.
