Legal Aid Service of Broward County (LAS), a not for profit law firm, is seeking a highly motivated Attorney to serve as the Pro Bono Regional Director/Development Officer. Applicant must be a member of the Florida Bar. This position will manage Broward Lawyers Care (BLC), LAS’s pro bono program. The Attorney will also be a member of the development department reporting to the Regional Director of Development. Services will also be provided to LAS’s sister agency, Coast to Coast Legal Aid of South Florida (CCLA).
Duties and Responsibilities:
Build, sustain and expand relationships with law firms, corporations, law schools, and bar associations.
Recruit, train, and supervise Broward Lawyers Care’s pro bono staff and volunteer clerical help.
Build a relationship between BLC and program substantive units within the agencies by attending monthly unit meetings.
Supervise the screening and placement of cases.
Develop quality control/evaluation tools for the project.
Conduct presentations on pro bono opportunities.
Coordinate pro bono recruitment.
Develop CLE trainings for attorneys.
Meet regularly with pro bono liaisons and allies.
Oversee the design, implementation, and evaluation of client service delivery models, including pro bono and pro se assistance projects.
Develop and supervise the annual pro bono giving campaign
Development and coordination of recognition opportunities for pro bono attorneys.
Act as committee chair for the annual pro bono appreciation fundraising gala, FOR THE PUBLIC GOOD.
Submit monthly articles to the Broward County Bar Association monthly newsletter highlighting a pro bono attorney and educating the law community on upcoming events, special projects., etc.
Participate in the state-wide pro bono organization.
Assist the Regional Director of Development and Social Media Coordinator in identifying, developing, and coordinating publicity opportunities.
Coordinate a dynamic training and mentoring program for legal volunteers, including overseeing the design of training materials and the recruitment of participants.
Attend various functions to promote Broward Lawyers Care and the agencies.
Assist the Regional Director of Development to develop special events.
Assist the Regional Director of Development in determining long-range goals.
Oversee the Development Department in the absence of the Regional Director of Development.
The qualified applicant will have a background directly relating to non-profit development, corporate relations, and marketing. Strong computer skills are required including Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, and other business software. Basic graphic design/website design skills preferred. Excellent communication and writing skills are required with knowledge of writing press releases, newsletters, and annual reports. Must be able to maintain a good public image and be comfortable with public communication. Excellent organizational skills are required; must have the ability to coordinate the work of many individuals to achieve final objectives. Bilingual applicants preferred.
The current entry-level salary is $60,000 per year. The salary for the successful applicant may be significantly higher, based on the applicant’s years of experience.
