Homeless Prevention Attorney /Project Director
Legal Aid Service of Broward County (LAS) is hiring a full-time Project Attorney for its new Homeless Prevention Project. The position will be responsible for screening new clients for the project, providing legal services to those clients, referring cases to our social service partner, managing his/her own caseload, giving presentations at various community organizations, expanding the Project, communicating and cooperating with the funder, assisting with fundraising, managing grant reports, participating in local, state, and national advocacy for prevention of homelessness, working directly on public policy that improves the lives of those who are in danger of homelessness, and generally being the face of the Project.
The Project will provide free civil legal services to Broward County residents who are facing imminent homelessness. The Project Attorney will supervise one paralegal.
The ideal candidate is passionate about homeless prevention advocacy, is comfortable communicating and collaborating with other professionals and clients, an d has excellent organizational skills.
The candidate must be a member in good standing with the Florida Bar and have seven to ten years experience in general civil matters such as housing/eviction, consumer (such as garnishment, debt defense, predatory lending), family, driver license reinstatement, social security, social security disability, and public benefits.
Salary range $70,000 to $100,000, Depending on Experience; excellent benefit package; possible student loan repayment assistance and eligible public service loan forgiveness.
