Veterans Unit Supervising Attorney

Legal Aid Service of Broward County (LAS) is hiring a full-time supervising attorney for its Veterans programs. The position will oversee the Mission United Veterans Pro Bono Project, two Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) programs, and program staff. Additionally, the position will be responsible for screening new Veteran clients for the pro bono project, referring cases to pro bono attorneys, and managing his/her own caseload. This position will also provide technical assistance to pro bono attorneys, recruit additional attorneys, develop trainings where necessary, assist with fundraising, and manage grants and grant reports.

The Veterans programs provide a variety of civil, administrative, and military related legal assistance to low-income Veterans in Broward County.  The Veterans unit supervising attorney will have a caseload of Veteran clients and will manage 2 paralegals and 2 staff attorneys, while overseeing program operations.

Additionally, the attorney in this position will serve on the United Way of Broward County’s Mission United Advisory Council. There will be opportunity to participate in local, state, and national advocacy for veterans and to work directly on public policy that improves the lives of Veterans in Florida.

The ideal candidate is passionate about Veterans advocacy, is comfortable communicating and collaborating with other professionals and clients, has experience with the Department of Veterans Affairs, has excellent organization skills, and is comfortable managing a team of attorneys and paralegals.

Must be a member in good standing with the Florida Bar.
