The City of Fort Lauderdale City Attorney’s Office is seeking an experienced Assistant City Attorney II – Litigation / Premises Liability / General Negligence Defense to join our litigation team.
This is an excellent opportunity for an accomplished civil litigator who wants to handle meaningful, sophisticated cases while representing one of Florida’s most dynamic municipalities.
What You’ll Do:
• Defend the City in personal injury, premises liability and general negligence matters
• Handle cases in state and federal courts
• Draft and argue substantive motions, including summary judgment motions
• Take and defend fact and expert depositions
• Participate in mediations, arbitrations, settlement negotiations and pretrial proceedings
• Develop litigation strategy and prepare witnesses for depositions and trial
• Work directly with City departments and Risk Management on pending and potential litigation
• Negotiate settlements and other legal agreements on behalf of the City
We’re Looking for an Attorney Who Has:
- A Juris Doctor degree
- Admission to practice law in Florida state and federal courts
- 3–5 years of first- or second-chair trial experience, jury or bench
- 3–5 years of experience drafting and arguing motions, attending mediations, and taking depositions, including expert depositions
- Strong litigation, analytical, negotiation and courtroom skills
- Municipal or other government law experience is preferred, but not required.

- Salary: $105,207.85 – $163,037.26 annually
- Three weeks (15 days) vacation plus 10 additional Management Vacation Days
